SOURI

SOURI: A Trendy Dessert Brand or Just Another Fad?

When I first heard about SOURI, I was curious but also a bit skeptical. The brand has been gaining a lot of attention, thanks to its modern branding, high-end packaging, and association with Thai celebrities. But as someone who enjoys dessert not just for the aesthetics but for the taste and overall experience, I had to see for myself whether SOURI is truly something special or just another social media-driven trend.

What I Like About SOURI

I have to admit, SOURI knows how to create a strong first impression. The packaging alone feels premium, making it an easy choice for gifts or special occasions. When I first walked into one of their stores, I was impressed by how well-designed the space was—it felt less like a dessert shop and more like a high-end cafĂ© where people come to take Instagram-worthy pictures.

Another thing I appreciate is their attention to detail in presentation. Every piece looks like it was carefully crafted, which makes the experience feel more special. I tried a few of their signature desserts, and some of them did impress me. The macarons, for example, had a nice balance of texture and sweetness, and I could tell they were made with quality ingredients.

Where I Think SOURI Falls Short

That being said, I couldn't help but feel that SOURI is more concerned with aesthetics than taste. While their desserts are beautiful, I was let down by some of them in terms of taste. Some of them, like their cakes and pastries, were a tad too sweet for my liking, and I was hoping for more depth in taste given their premium positioning.

The second concern I had was about pricing. I understand that premium ingredients and brand name do come at a cost, but I couldn't help but feel that a great deal of what I was paying for was the image rather than the dessert itself. In comparison to other well-established patisseries in Bangkok, I still believe that SOURI has room for improvement when it comes to pricing and value.

My Thoughts on SOURI’s Future

SOURI clearly has a clearly defined brand image, and I see why it would appeal to a young, fashion-forward crowd. But personally, if they are going to last in the game for the long haul, they need to focus as much on having the taste of their products as right as the branding is. A gorgeous dessert is lovely, but if the taste is not up to par with the eye candy, folks will eventually grow tired of it.
For now, SOURI is doing a great job at capturing attention and positioning itself as a luxury dessert brand. Whether or not it becomes a lasting name in Thailand’s competitive dessert scene, however, depends on how they evolve beyond just being a trendy place to visit. Personally, I’d love to see them refine their recipes and create flavors that are as memorable as their branding. If they can do that, then they might be a staple at Bangkok's desserts.
